Our team was selected as the winner of the 2018 Oxford Street Christmas Lights Competition held by RIBA and the New West End Company, in conjunction with Transport for London and Westminster City Council.
“KaleidoSCAPE” is an immersive interactive experience of light and colour. It captures the essence of Christmas as a shared experience whilst aiming to increase the dwell time and encourage repeat visit to the West End during the festive season.
A combination of innovative material is used to create crystalline formations of mirrors, filters and meshes that reflect, refract and absorb light both during the day and night, continue to amaze visitors and to encourage people to dwell longer in the area to see the transition from day to night. It creates a unique visual identity for the street rather than simply being a seasonal lighting installation. This responds to the 21st century retail ethos which is driven by consumer experience rather than the consumption of products. The scheme is not realised.
