Responding to an ambitious client’s brief, the Orb was born as a feature bespoke installation using light, suspended from the top of the south east ‘nose’ of Deloitte’s new UK and North West Europe headquarters at 1 New Street Square, London.
It is situated within the Level 14 Sky Lounge – Observatory, occupying a four-storey void space that can also be clearly viewed externally, both from the adjacent streets and from distant views across the City of London.
The design intent was for the large-scale pendant lit feature to act as a beacon for the Deloitte brand, which is representative of the company’s ethos and values. The luminaire is a unique bespoke designed feature consisting of 40no. curved light elements of logarithmic diameters which form a spherical volume with a maximum diameter of 1700mm.
The individual lighting segments include two rows of integral colour changing RGBW LED light source each and manufactured from cast opal acrylic, fixed to a lightweight curved mild steel frame. The feature has fully dynamic lighting controls.
