A hospitality-driven workplace at The Northcliffe

We’re pleased to share the completed lighting design for the new London office of a global law firm, located within the Grade II-listed Northcliffe House redevelopment.

EQUATION Lighting Design was appointed to develop a lighting strategy that supports the project’s vision: a flexible, people-focused workplace blending the formal requirements of a leading global law firm with the warmth and ease of hospitality environments.

Working closely with tp bennett, our scheme balances clarity, comfort and collaboration atmosphere across a diverse mix of spaces, from client-facing areas and collaborative hubs to quieter, sensory-rich zones designed for focus. Architectural integration was central to the approach, with lighting woven into feature walls, ceilings, joinery and circulation pathways to enhance flow and maintain visual coherence throughout the three floors.

The lighting concept responds to the building’s strong character, complementing its Crittall-style windows, original Art Deco details and new sculptural staircase. Layers of light support the designers’ material palette of terracotta, timber and deep greens, while biophilic elements are elevated through carefully tuned contrasts and soft transitions.

We are delighted that this project was shortlisted at the FX Design Magazine & Awards 2025 in the Workspace Environment (Large) category, a recognition of the collaborative effort behind the transformation of this landmark building.
