As we near the festive season, EQUATION Lighting Design team took time out to come together, share inspiration, and experience the sold-out exhibition Monet and London: Views of the Thames exhibition at The Courtauld Gallery. This team activity was a perfect way to reconnect ahead of the upcoming holidays and thoroughly enjoy the beauty of art and light explorations.

Through Monet’s mastery of light and his ability to transform the everyday into the extraordinary, we were reminded of the profound connection between light, atmosphere, and perception. His paintings of the Thames, with their glowing reflections and misty colors, offered a unique way to rediscover London’s beauty in a new light – one shaped by time, weather, and movement.

Our team reflected deeply on Monet’s perspective. Alejandro shared how the exhibition highlighted the often – overlooked beauty of our surroundings. Alex admired Monet’s ability to layer time and atmosphere through his process, while Panagiotis was inspired by the dynamic interaction between light and water in Monet’s work, creating a sense of energy and emotion.

This visit enriched our understanding of light as a medium to shape feelings, spaces, and experiences – a principle that resonates deeply with our practice as lighting designers.
